There are 3 kind of fear
1. Natural Fear
2. Sinful Fear
3. The Fear of God
The first kind of fear is called natural. Everyone has it to one degree or another.
It is not always sinful, but it is always the result or consequence of sin.
Since sin is in our nature, in our flesh; then we will always have to deal with fear.
Natural Fear is the trouble or anxiety of the mind, the apprehension or approaching evil or impending danger.
It comes from the word to mean “to put to flight”.
There are dozens of commands in the Scripture to “Fear Not”, Be Not Afraid”, etc.
Genesis 3:8 Adams sins, then he hides.
Adam hears the familiar voice of his Father in the cool of the day, but now he is afraid.
Sin manifested in fear brings about the need to “hide oneself”.
This natural fear creates great trouble and axiety.
I John 4:18 says, There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
If the fear becomes too great, then reason is disregarded.
We make our decisions at “wit’s end”.
Psalm 107:27
They reel too and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit’s end.
The next verse goes on to say….
Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and He bringeth them out of their distresses.
Evil is the object of fear. The goal of fear is always evil.
The greater the evil, the greater the fear.
Therefore since evil in the natural man will have no boundaries, then the conscience must be awakened to the greatest of all fear.
That is the fear of the great and terrible God Himself.
To be scared of His infinite and eternal wrath from which there is no escaping by anyone through any means and there is no evil greater than Him
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
However, many try to put off thinking about this pending evil. They don’t want to think about a God, A Creator, A Supreme Being.
For if there is truly One Who made all things, then there just might be rules or laws or system of rewards and penalties that are beyond the reach of any judge on this earth.
Most would rather not think of future “Day of Judgment”. For that fear is too great to contemplate.
Amos 6:3 Ye that put away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near.
Man cannot keep the evil day from approaching, but try to keep from their thoughts.
Natural fear is resident in all men to a higher degree or lesser.
Some men are naturally brave, they are called fearless, while others are inclined to be faint hearted.
Next we will discuss the subject of “Sinful Fear”>
